Prime Minister Stephen Harper said he heard the message and will respect it.
“We made a promise to have a free vote on this issue, we kept that promise, and obviously the vote was decisive and obviously we’ll accept the democratic result of the people’s representatives,” Harper said.
“I don’t see reopening this question in the future.”
You can totally tell that Stephen Harper himself could give a fuck about same-sex marriage, but he pretends to care so that he can appease the religious right. I’m just glad this stayed. Canada’s seen in good favor by all the progressive democratic nations of the world because of this legislation, but let’s not forget Trudeau formed the canvas for these laws as Justice Minister in the 60s!
