Legalizing Marijuana - A New Republican Strategy? : Indybay
“This Republican party employee goes on to tell me that she is there to attract people to the table that is set up in Fresno’s Courthouse Park, and that the legalize marijuana petition is just a prop. She confirmed that there is no ballot initiative to legalize marijuana. She said that the petition will be given to an elected official in Sacramento. I have my doubts about that.”
Do yourself a huge favor. Click the link and read the article. The Republicans, armed with faux activists and fake initiate ballots are using a facade of grassroots activism to encourage people to vote for a party that has a history of utter contempt for, big shock here, grassroots activism.
This is a lot like when Nixon’s administration set up fake anti-war groups to keep an eye on the actual anti-war groups. California’s had a lot of problems lately with their ballot initiatives being passed and becoming actual law, but the federal government refuses to recognize them because they don’t fit in with the “war on drugs.” Of course I’m talking about Proposition 215, the effort to legalize medical cannabis in California. You can read more about that here, here and here.
I firmly believe that although it is within the power of government to control certain aspects of our lives, what we do in the privacy of our home within the confines of moderation and individual responsibility are not within that realm.
